Job Description:
A leading regional waste management and recycling provider is seeking a safety-conscious Wheel Loader / Shovel Driver for their busy transfer station in Swansea.
In this safety-critical position, you will collaborate with the site management and weighbridge teams to oversee stockpile handling, ensure bay compliance, and manage efficient vehicle loading. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining high product quality standards, environmental safeguards, and essential fire prevention protocols.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- You’ll be responsible for loading outbound vehicles to exact specifications while maintaining high housekeeping standards (5S) to prevent cross-contamination and ensure product quality.
- You’ll conduct thorough daily pre-use machinery inspections and taking immediate action to report defects, ensuring all plant equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
- You’ll ensure all activities align with environmental and safety regulations—including dust suppression and air quality controls—with the full authority to halt operations if safety or compliance is compromised.
- Full commitment to site Traffic Management Plans (TMP), including rigorous adherence to speed limits, pedestrian segregation protocols, and the mandatory use of a Banksman during reversing or loading operations.
- Proactive management of fire risks by maintaining strict combustible separation distances, monitoring pile temperatures, and immediately reporting any hotspots or potential hazards to site management.
What you’ll bring:
- You’ll hold a valid NPORS or CPCS Wheel Loader ticket (essential) with proven experience operating heavy plant within waste, recycling, or aggregate environments.
- You’ll have a strong background in navigating site traffic management systems and a proactive approach to near-miss reporting and continuous safety improvement.
- You’ll have a solid understanding of site-specific controls, including dust suppression, noise mitigation, and general environmental compliance standards.
- You’ll be able to work collaboratively within a fast-paced team, maintaining clear and effective radio communication at all times.
- You’ll be a reliable and proactive individual who has a sharp eye for detail to ensure operational excellence.
